GP round 2 of the JJ finals was won by Richie Sampson. He wasn’t even sure of a semi-final spot with only 6 points going into his final heat. However he finished the meeting with a win in heat 18, a smart gate to win his semi followed by a fine third lap pass of Robbie Cormack to win the final. His 15 points have put him level at the top of the standings with Darcy Broad. Broad made his second consecutive final after winning round 1 to score a good 12 points to keep him at the top. Broad and Sampson have a handy 4 point lead over Cormack and Craig Leonard going into the final round. It was these two who completed the final in this round, Cormack second on the night and Leonard fourth. Both scored 14 and sit just behind the top two waiting to pounce on any mistakes. Other semi-finalists were Wayne Josephs who came back well to score 10 points after a tapes exclusion and a last place in his opening two rides, Dmitrij O’Shea, Marcus Jay and Brian Broadbank who all scored 9. O’Shea is seven points behind top spot and maybe just too far adrift to take the title. Giles Hill could only score 7 after a good first round and has probably dropped out of contention now. Also finishing on 7 were Lloyd Byford, Cameron Monk and Jordan Trott all of whom needed to make the semis to have any say on the destination of the title. Andrew Knapkin, Mitchell Spink, Boyd Beaton and Chris Holmes finished down the field and will be riding for pride in the final round.
