The All Saints Stadium saw Tunstall’s Dmitrij O’Shea finish with three fine wins to take round one in the North Midlands section. O’Shea is in his final JJ season and looks really focused this time around. Richie Sampson from Burslem followed him home for second spot but only after a run-off with surprise packet Ralph Whelan. The unattached young Irishman had four superb wins with just one blip in heat 14 when he finished last when up against O’Shea. Sampson had begun the meeting well with three wins and a second but could only manage third in his final heat to finish one point behind the winner. There were good performances from eleven point scorers Craig Leonard from Charlemont and Brian Broadbank from Wantage. Both looked like they had pushed on from last season and will be in the mix for semi-final places. Rounding out the top eight were three riders who had two wins and a couple of less impressive rides. These were Damon Duffy of Wolston, Lee Mcauliffe from Sheffield and the unattached Alex Golden. Behind these there are riders who will need to perform better next time out to keep up with the top lads.
